Baar, 12. November 2018 – LION Smart GmbH, a developer of electric energy storage devices and lithium-ion battery system technologies, is presenting the current status of its battery management system based on wireless technology at the world’s leading trade fair electronica in Munich (November 13-16, 2018).

The battery management system is the heart of every battery. It constantly monitors the state of charge with maximum accuracy and protects against overheating. In contrast to other systems, the wireless battery management system presented by LION does not use a bus cable. This wireless technology simplifies the development of battery management systems for electric vehicles and increases their reliability.

The concept car demonstrates that the wireless battery management system can significantly reduce both the weight and the cost of e-vehicles. In addition, thanks to wireless technology, automobile manufacturers can position battery modules more flexibly, which simplifies the installation of additional sensors.

LION has more than ten years of experience in developing battery management systems and works closely with Analog Devices, an established semiconductor manufacturer.

As the world’s leading trade fair and conference for electronic components, systems and applications, electronica in Munich offers the ideal setting for presenting battery packs and battery management systems developed by LION. Technologies, products and solutions from all areas of electronics will be shown at the trade fair. With more than 2,900 national and international exhibitors, the event offers inisights into the global market.

In the electromobility market, up to 15 million new electric vehicles are expected on the roads worldwide by 2030 – not including hybrid vehicles. The drivers for this development are rising costs for fossil fuels, stricter regulations, growing market pressure from Asia, as well as a new environmental awareness. So far, however, neither the cost nor the range of the battery cells meet the high expectations of consumers and automobile manufacturers. LION is meeting these challenges by continuously improving and further developing its battery system technology.
